The picture book, "big wolf and little wolf The Little Leaf that Wouldn't Fall", written by, Nadine Brun-Cosme describes a friendship between big wolf and little wolf. Little wolf is constantly asking big wolf for him to go get a leaf on top of a tall tree, which little wolf cannot reach. Big wolf finally climbs up the tree during winter to catch the leaf for little wolf. Big wolf struggles getting back down the tree because the snow is melting, but he is determined and helps little wolf eat the leaf he wanted. In the end, big wolf and little wolf thinks it was worth it because of their happiness. ( )

"High up in a tall tree was a little leaf," begins this second picture-book featuring those lovable friends, Big Wolf and Little Wolf. Conceiving an intense desire for the leaf, Little Wolf asks his friend to climb up and get it, but Big Wolf counsels patience: "Wait...Eventually it will fall." As the seasons pass, from spring to summer, and then from autumn to winter, the little leaf continues to cling to its branch. Finally, Big Wolf decides to fetch the leaf for his friend, climbing up the ice-covered tree. But is it worth the risks he's taking?

After falling in love with these two friends in Big Wolf and Little Wolf, I had really been looking forward to this second installment of their adventures. A gentle tale of friendship, and the desire to please and provide for those we love, it has a lovely, contemplative tone, emphasized by Olivier Tallec's gorgeously expressive illustrations. I didn't think it was quite the equal of the first, in which the themes of loneliness, and the discovery of friendship, are so brilliantly deployed, but it was still a delightful story, and a worthy follow-up. ( )

Little Wolf sees a beautiful leaf at the top of a tree and wants it, but Big Wolf convinces him that he should wait until the leaf falls. Little Wolf waits patiently through the four seasons until it is finally winter and he cannot wait any longer. Big Wolf decides to climb the tree and pick the leaf, and when he does it falls to pieces. Instead of them being sad, they see the beauty in the leaves. I would have this story in my classroom for a book in my collections, but I would probably not use it as a read aloud. ( )
