I am a strong proponent of people reading two of Deloria's other works, Custer Died For Your Sins and Red Earth White Lies. Whether or not you agree with his philosophy, these books are insightful, thought-provoking, and illuminating of underrepresented ideas that bolster all of our views on the world. I didn't find the same level of thought (philosophically or pragmatically) in this book. With limited hours in the day, I suggest people focus on his classics, his magnum opus, instead. Engage with his work as a whole - he is a thinker worth engaging. ( ) Native American spiritual elder offers his critiques of both Biblical Creationism and the Theory of Evolution, concluding (of course) in favour of a traditional Aboriginal interpretation of the world's origins. Unfortunately, his sources for both evolution and creationism seem to originate exclusively from creationist literature and nowhere else, so, although he gets two stars for being able to insightfully pick out many of the flaws in Biblical creationism, his critiques of science on the other hand merely regurgitate those of the creationists themselves. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Using the tension between evolutionists and creationists in Kansas in the late 1990s as a focal point, Deloria takes Western science and religion to task, providing a critical assessment of the flaws and anomalies in each side's arguments. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
