Sins of the Flesh
5 Stars

Malthus Krayl is intent on discovering the truth behind the heinous murder of his brother and will let nothing stand in his way until he encounters Calliope Kane, a sworn enemy who tempts him beyond reason. As a Daughter of Aset, Calli has an intense personal and professional hatred of Soul Reapers and is particularly unnerved when she finds herself inexplicably drawn to one. Mal and Calli must learn to trust their feelings before the traitors in their midst get the better of them both.

Note: This review has been updated following Eve Silver's re-release of the book with a new cover, edited content and added material. An advance copy of the new release was provided to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.

This series just gets better and better.

The villain behind the conspiracy is finally revealed, and it is quite a revelation even though it is possible to figure it out toward the end. Nevertheless, there are still several questions that remain unanswered, but these will be ultimately be answered in the final installment.

Mal and Calli are definitely the best of the three couples so far. Their intense chemistry and battle of wills are gripping from the first moment and even though there are serious obstacles to their relationship, they are resolved in a believable manner (if a tad too quickly) and there isn't the excessive angst that characterizes Naphre and Alastor's romance.

Calliope is a wonderful character. Her wit, intelligence and determination as well as the fact that she kicks butt and stands her ground against an immortal Soul Reaper make her a particularly appealing heroine. Mal, the “bad boy” brother has his own brand of ethics and is not above taking what he wants when he wants it. His seize the moment approach to life very refreshing.

Silver's writing has improved in the revised versions of the series, and the plot, which has always been complex and intriguing, gets a few more twists and turns. The revision of the last book will be released very soon and I'm looking forward to my re-read. ( )

Started promising, but I've lost interest very soon. Fans of Lara Adrian would love this, but not enough depth for me. ( )

Malthus has has a policy about women, he loves them and leaves them, but when one woman leaves him she intrigues him and when their paths cross again he's compelled to find out more about Calliope, who hates soul reapers and is determined to get her way, without his help.

Meanwhile Malthus is still trying to find out why and how his brother died and was dismembered. He's also trying to resist her, she's not what he usually goes for and she doesn't let him away with anything, he has to step up to the plate to try to match her and this makes him more interested.

There are parts of this that are quite predictable but with the underworld gods I'd also like to see a few more of the other gods around or why they disappeared. This is a different series because it relies more on egyptian mythology than greco-roman and it has me interested in what's going to happen next. I found this to be the best of the three so far and look forward to what's going to happen next. ( )

Eve Silver has gained a new fan, I really enjoyed Sins of the Flesh and just wish I had read the two previous Otherkin novels ([b:Sins of the Heart|7765054|Sins of the Heart (Otherkin trilogy, #1)|Eve Silver|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1284526685s/7765054.jpg|10641580] and [b:Sins of the Soul|7713851|Sins of the Soul (Otherkin trilogy, #2)|Eve Silver|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1277409213s/7713851.jpg|10441668]) I own the first in the series, but didn't have the opportunity to read it , and now I plan on buying the second. Despite not having read the previous installments, Sins of the Flesh works as a stand alone. I wasn't thrown by the series storyline arc as Silver deftly weaved the background into her story. The mythology of the story is intriguing, and the world building detailed and convincing. Characters from the previous books are periphially involved and Silver skillfully revealed the bones of their stories within the context of this one. While identified as a paranormal romance, this book has enough action and plot to blur the boundaries into the urban fantasy genre, the romance elements are integral but don't overshadow the storyline. I liked the push pull nature of Calliope and Mal's attraction, the banter adds humor and sexual tension. The steamy sex scenes were particularly well written.Calliope is a strong character, and I really liked her attitude. Mal is definately alpha but with enough complexity that make him very appealing. I'm relieved to find that this series has surpassed it's original trilogy plan and a fourth book will be published in 2011. I'll be looking forward to it. ( )

What an ending... what an ending!

Eve Silver's work will titillate all your senses and have you utterly engulfed.

I really enjoy novels that have close release dates. It was especially smart with this trilogy because each book is more of a continuation into the next with Sins of the Flesh closing out grand story line. With that said, each book (Sins of the Heart, Soul and Flesh) has it's own sub-plot full of peril and romance.

What I loved about this novel was the pairing of Mal and Calliope. They find something in each other that either never thought they were seeking. In the same breath, the romance didn't click as well with me as the other two romances. It seems to be more sudden then the other two but by the novel's end I was feeling the love.

All in all, I love that each book has it's own essence but follows a common goal throughout: find their fourth brother's murderer and try to get him back. Most of all, I love the female lead characters and Eve Silver's writing is phenomenal. The world of Otherkin is written with equal parts Paranormal and Romance. The series is among my favorites now and I would recommend to any PNR fan. ( )
