Thomas E. Appleton

This was published in 1968 and shows its age. In minute detail it covers the history of the marine services in Canada and the process that led to the creation of the Canadian Coast Guard. The writing style is bureaucratic and old-fashioned, and the book is printed on heavy glossy paper in smallish print that makes the book feel longer than it does (it’s only 271 pages before appendices). I ended up skipping to the chapters that interested me most: Aids to Navigation, Search and Rescue, and Ships and Shipbuilding, although even in the shipbuilding chapter I ended up skim-reading.
