Mayflower, Mudlarking and Salt Marsh and Mud

Having not only grown up in exactly the same rivers, mud and towns as the author but sailed in similar craft, including on one occasion one of the beautiful queens of a Thames barge he writes about, I am almost inclined to disqualify myself from comment. But I love these books so much I want to encourage others to read and enjoy them too.

Perhaps those who do and still live in the Thames area will then support the author in his long quest to find and identify the remains of this once glorious fleet and even, where possible, to recover and restore them.

More than ‘just’ a sailing books, in this series Nick lays out the history and details of the Thames, the barges and towns along this glorious estuary. Each can be read independently of the others but reading Mayflower – the barge that Nick Ardley grew up on, will give an understanding of his knowledge and passion for the Thames ‘spriitty’.
