Took me a while to get into the book, but once I did I enjoyed the story and the many different characters.

DCI Sheldon Hunter investigates the death of an art galley owner but is unable to determine the guilty person. The story wanders around in the middle and covers the next four years, of the lives of the Saddler family, until another body is found. The Hunter starts to investigate the first murder again, but can it be solved.

Lonely Arnold Peabody kills himself after the death of his mother. Later did Mildred Hewitt also commit suicide. Is there a connection between these people and who or what is it. Chief Inspector Henry Beaumont decides to unofficial investigate the mystery. (Originally published in 1988).
I found the flow of the story a bit too slow and none of the characters were really appealing or that interesting. Which is a pity as I have enjoyed other books by Ms Atkins.

I needed more from this book. It was pretty straight forward mystery and while I really like a good mystery, I like them to have more to them. Also the ending was too open for me.
