More romance than suspense, this great romance does have serious suspense elements. Tara as she is now known is hiding from her ex-husband who tried to kill her in an unjustified jealous rage. Now she seeks safety and peace as she tries to rebuild her life but the fear of her hacker ex finding her keeps her on edge and afraid to connect with other people.
Sheriff Ryan Anderson not only wants to know more about her as part of his job, he needs to know about the beautiful woman to whom is is drawn for the first time in years. Humorous circumstances throw them together and he is more than willing to take advantage of any edge he can get. He gets that she has some danger hanging over her but he is sure that he can protect her from anything if she will only give him a chance.
I love the people of Anderson Butte and was as happy with It had to be Love as I was with It Had to Be Him

this was one of my free books with amazon prime. This month i have managed to stumble across books that i have a hell of a time starting but love in the end. this was one of those books.

Too often I pick up a romance novel and I find my eyes glazing over a weak plot and one-dimensional characters -- but not this time. "It had to be him" had me at hello -- and the hello was the heroine's gun-toting grandma. Meg, the heroine, was totally relatable. She was perfect in her imperfection. Her hero, Josh, was utterly lovable. I'd marry him in a minute. Not only were the main characters great, but the supporting cast was fantastic. Please give me more Anderson Butte. I want to know what happens to everyone else.… (meer)

Sawyer Davis has inherited her mother's Victorian home and mystery bookstore, "Cloaks, Daggers, and Croissants." Sawyer's sister Megan, a physician, is married with 2 children, lives in San Francisco, and consistently tells Sawyer that she doesn't need any of the inheritance and that Sawyer is the one to carry on their mother's dreams.

Sawyer's mother knew she was dying of cancer so she was careful to leave information for Sawyer to comfort her and also to reveal her secrets with clues meaningful to Sawyer. Most importantly, the discoveries would also help Sawyer retain her mother's part of the trust and far from the reach of her conniving Uncle Frank's hands. As mayor he has access to people and documentation at his fingertips and doesn't hesitate to use intimidation so Sawyer needs to be careful of who she takes into her confidence.

Inheritance has become a "typical" reason for a woman to move back to her hometown or to a dearly loved small town from her past. A romantic interest that has also become "standard fare" is a member of law enforcement. In this series opener, I absolutely love and highly applaud the twists that the author has creatively added that made this mystery all the more enticing to read, added sparkle to the love triangle, and an adorable Doodle for cuddles. I'm looking forward to reading what's next for Sawyer.

I do love a good mystery and admit I had no clue WHO killed Sawyer's dad's ex-girlfriend! Now Max is number one suspect and she has to help him. Fighting her greedy uncle over her mom's legacy, she worked in the bookstore that her mom had left her and the old home that she was slowly restored As suspects keep showing up on her suspect list, I found myself laughing at Madge's style of barreling through the doors a driving her little car peddle to the mettle style! NOW I can't wait to read the next book! AND GOOD RIDDANCE TO HER UNCLE!… (meer)
