Robert Beard is a geologist and has collected rocks for over 30 years. He received his BA in geology at California State University, Chico, and his MS in geology from the University of New Mexico. He is a contributing editor to Rock Gem magazine and has written for the magazine since 1993. He lives toon meer in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, with his wife and two children. toon minder

This book was a delight to read -- any word lover would agree, I'm sure. Robert Beard presents the most beautiful words in the English language, based largely on how they sound and to some extent, what associations they evoke. He admits his choices are subjective, and he couldn't whittle the list all the way down to 100! There are 121 short essays, each on a beautiful word, with definitions and the word's origins included.
