Helen Beardsley (1930–2000)

Read this a long time ago, it was my mom's book. We are big fans of the Henry Fonda/Lucille Ball movie Yours, Mine, and Ours (NOT the remake), and the story is very loosely connected to this book.

Almost therapeutic reading for me. Charming and old fashioned, it was a nice change. No huge, pushy agenda. Just a story told as one person saw it.

Also, as much as I loved it, I still like the movie. Both of them have valuable messages and contain quality work.

This book inspired one of my favorite films; Yours, Mine and Ours. The book was published in 1965, and the film was produced in 1968, starring Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda.

Helen's prose suits me. I enjoyed the book.

I've learned that one of Helen's sons wrote his own book as an adult, and that it seems that things did not remain so wonderful over time. I do not plan to read his book, as the reviews tend to say the writing is not good.

Much more realistic than either of the two movies that were inspired by it. I enjoyed hearing about such a large family from a completely adult point of view, but I wish it was longer.
