DON BENDELL'S "STRONGHEART" (A REVIEW)

From the moment you first begin reading you are transported to the wild west, where Indians hunt and survive on their wits to being a part of a real life stage coach robbery. I felt as though I were watching the entire story unfold right before my eyes and could feel each bullet that Joshua Strongheart took in his quest to keep his word. You can't help but fall in love with Don's handsome hero as he tears up the countryside on his intended path to right a severe wrong. This man has morals, strength, and a heart of gold... is it any wonder the women fall head over heels for him?

I absolutely loved this book and can't wait for the sequel. Don Bendell is a master storyteller and I hope he never stops writing Westerns. It's been a long time since I've found someone I enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed Louis L'amour. I long to see the revival of good quality Western novels and I believe that Don Bendell will be an active participant in making it happen! If you love Westerns and stories about heroes that are true men, you must read this book!

Along with another book I have read, I am starting to understand the Vietnam War better. As far as this book goes; however, I was left a little flat. With a tiltle like "Valley of Tears" you would expect a devastating life changing experience, but the author does not give you that sense. He spends more time on events before the mission. The Mission the story is about is almost anti-climatic and does not really give you a sense of the authors suffering.

The whole book seems like nothing more than rambling memories. There is no coherent theme that carries you through the book. In addition, you get no true sense of the authors feelings of the war in hindsight.… (meer)
