I find it super frustrating that the first sexy time we get isn’t when it’s maybe a little drunk and messy but mutually wanted… no we get it in the middle of a stress filled time and I find myself struggle to enjoy it when all I can think is NOW isn’t the time for it. Idc if it’s just a self reassurance for both of them that they are okay and that it’s going to be okay and that they are alive. I’m just not down with it.
Ho dei sentimenti contrastanti nei confronti di questo romanzo: ci sono degli aspetti che mi sono piaciuti molto, mentre altri mi hanno annoiato a morte durante la lettura.
L’elemento che ho apprezzato di più è stata la difficoltà della protagonista, Anna, ad adattarsi alla genitorialità: felicemente childfree, si ritrova a fare da tutrice alla nipote e al nipote in seguito alla tragica morte del fratello e di sua moglie. L’intera sua vita viene stravolta e Anna prova diversi sentimenti negativi, dalla rabbia alla voglia di mollare tutto e scappare.
Benson è molto brava, pur nel contesto di un romanzo leggero, a esaminare la contraddizione del volere molto bene a due bambinu, ma allo stesso tempo non smaniare per cambiare pannolini e pulire vomito da influenza.
Allo stesso tempo, però, ho trovato molto noiosa la parte romance (che per fortuna non è poi così presente) perché si muove nei soliti binari. A definire scontata la seconda metà del romanzo gli si fa quasi un complimento: mi sono annoiata a morte (soprattutto per quel solito e inutile espediente per infilare altro dramma nella storia e che sta ritto a malapena da un punto di vista logico).
Inutile descrivere Anna che fa a pezzi una Bibbia per bambinu in reazione alla becera ignoranza di una fondamentalista cristiana (scena apprezzatissima e intensa) se poi la storia annega nei cliché del romance.… (meer)

Its all good that Cora made some progress into her life, between identifying her sexuality and realizing her husband is a complete cad and an emotionally abusive pos.... but it took WAY too long in the book for it to happen. Its also exceedingly frustrating that its not REALLY addressed about how she herself had been a user. As for the main relationship... the heat and passion wasn't really there for me and the whole cheating thing is hard to swallow. Just an 'eh' feeling overall.
I completely fell in love with the characters in this book. The main characters, Anna and Lane, the secondary characters, Sandra and Kym, and the children, Ella and Tobes.
The story is different from most of the lesbian romances I've read and very, very well done. The author takes her time with the development of the relationships and I felt completely invested in every aspect of the book.
I laughed and I cried. Dropped several tears in a few different places.
I highly recommend this book and I can't wait to read more from her.… (meer)
