J. Mark Bertrand

Learned that I'm probably not a big fan of mysteries. And this one seemed to go on for too long. Interesting main character; plot was a little convoluted for me.

Houstonians may get more out of the gritty setting than I did. I did like imagining the TX accents and big box church environment. The reveal of the protag's secret is well staged. But I didn't like how he cleaved to job (the popo), wife and church at the end. Guess I was hoping for more.

An in-depth, good murder mystery with interesting characters. Not a quick read, hoping to read more in the series

It is rare that I read fiction written by Christians published by Christian publishers. But in the case of J Mark Bertrand I'm happy to make an exception. This is an excellent book - as good as any Michael Connelly.
