Peter Bold

Maybe I'm biased because my brother wrote this book, but I think it's excellent. It looks at the foundations of the Christian faith, from a rational, objective point of view. Peter was a mechanical engineer before he started training as a minister, and he struggled, at first, with the way some theology students approached their studies.

Peter lays out his basis for examining theology, and then takes the reader through the steps he took in determining his beliefs. He takes the Bible seriously but uses his mind, asking questions where appropriate, and looking not just at the parts he naturally agrees with, but examining some of the more controversial parts too.

The book covers some divisive issues, where he hopes that Christians can agree to disagree, and ends with some practical issues as outworking of faith in the 21st century.

I found it highly readable in an engaging style, with some compelling and persuasive arguments. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in what Christians believe, and why.
