I don't want to provide an enormous review here, as on the whole this is a good book and such an undertaking would require an absolutely enormous amount of reading and historical knowledge. However, having just completed a Masters level course in the 'History of Western Political Thought' I am astounded that Robert Nozick is given such short shrift throughout. Studying the index shows that he garners just two, utterly tangential mentions in the entire 600 page book. Now surely this is a ridiculous oversight - omitting one of the most important political thinkers of the 20th century.

I should add that the editors defend their choice of Rawls, Habermas, Foucault and Oakeshott representing the 20th century on grounds of covering contributions to political thought post-Marx and Nietzsche, however I remain unconvinced of the merit of this decision.… (meer)
