I really thought I marked this read...
Each of these novellas are sweet, with spunky women, strong male leads, and humorous plots you'll be swept into a romantic story that closes happily. My favorite of the stories is Pistol-Packin' Bride with Ben's three sets of parents, two gunshots, and the attempted kidnapping. This is a one of a kind story that pulls you right in. Each of these historical stories are a need to read for romance, western, and comedy lovers.
Rating: 4 stars.
Recommendation: 16 up.

As the next installment of the Queen of the Rockies series, Flame of the Rockies chronicles the lives of a widow, Juliana Hayes, who bakes bread for the men at the railroad camp. She longs only to escape the camp and be free. Lukas Filips works for the railroad and determines to keep Juliana safe from the men of the camp. But he is also forced to keep a secret from her. Juliana accepts his protection until he reveals the fact he is Montenegrin nobility.

Combining factual accounts of the wildfires that burned through parts of Montana and Idaho during August 1910 killing and destroying much in its path with fictional characters helped bring this story to life for me. I loved getting to know Juliana, Lukas, and the other characters in this book.

The author created an excellent storyline with incredible characters. It made me appreciate how hard women's lives were during this time. Even though each book in this story stands alone, I definitely recommend reading them all in order. The unique storylines, rich history, and unique storylines illustrate what life was like from the Gilded Age to the turn of the century. So check out this ok and the entire series for yourself.

The historical fiction book Flame of the Rockies is among the best I've read in a while. By far and away, historical fiction is my favorite type of literature, particularly when it is based on actual events and not just an era or setting. In many different ways, Breidenbach vividly brought this event to life.

I believe the raging fire itself is the story's major character rather than any of its human characters. Humans are necessary because they provide the framework for powerful emotions. However, I don’t feel they can do justice to the gripping, suspenseful atmosphere evoked through this impressive novel.

I learned so much about the Big Blowup of 1910. As I read, I was sitting on the edge of my seat while tensely attempting to read more quickly in order to find out what had happened. At the same time, I was having an incredibly terrifying sense of dread and fear of learning what happened, too.

My desire to visit Montana again now that I am older is sparked by the love, passion and knowledge of the state that shines through Breidenbach's tale.

Flame of the Rockies is Book 6 of “Queen of the Rockies.” Nonetheless, they do not have to be read in order.
