Amelia Cole knows there are two worlds: the magic and non-magic. She knows because she travels between the two of them. But her traveling has made the worlds unstable and while she and her Aunt are attempting to close the door between those worlds her Aunt dies and Amelia is left alone and about to be arrested. Desperate she searches her Aunt's home for an escape and finds one: a door to yet another world. In this new world, magic users live side by side with non-magic users. But magic can only be used for the benefit of magic-users, leaving the non-magic often defenseless. Amelia isn't at all okay with this and helps everyone equally, bringing her to the attention of the city's shadowy rulers.

I have an overall image of brightness from reading this graphic novel. The colors were bright, the story was bright, and Amelia seems to me to be bright. This doesn't mean everything in the story is bright, because some parts of it are quite dark, including the several mysteries Amelia stumbles into. The art is adorable; make sure you look for familiar characters in background scenes.

This is a fun and well-written introduction to Amelia Cole, who had the power to walk between worlds (specifically, one with a fantastical magic, and our own Earth). But something goes wrong, and now Amelia's in an unknown world where she doesn't quite know the rules -- and she seems to always be on the wrong side of the law. She creates a wonderful sidekick, a golem she names Lemmy, and tries to do the right thing, even as it gets her in trouble. The art is particularly good; I was reminded of Terry Moore's art at various points in this six-issue collection. The ending is a little weak, undoubtedly forced due to the limited comic run, but future installments may help redeem that.
