Being a choice of photographs, mostly of buildings, with a few cityscapes and landscapes in the mix. The collection is interesting to flip through, but comes across as rather purposeless. From the title and the forlorn dust jacket picture, one might surmise that the photographs will concern themselves with high plains decay, but the majority of the buildings are quite grand, in good repair, and not located in any particular topography. Further confusing the issue are a considerable number of Architectural Digest type interior photographs, often of churches. The publishers did the photographer no favors in not captioning the pictures; this does provide them a certain aura of mystery, but on the whole I'd prefer to have an idea of where I am. An appendix which contains the information is of no help except for the most hardened of page flippers.… (meer)
