Ernest S. Burch

Ernest S. Burch Jr. was an ethnohistorian whose work has had a monumental impact on Alaska and on arctic anthropology. His books include Inupiaq Eskimo Nations of Northwest Alaska and Social Life in Northwest Alaska. Burch served as an advisor to the US Arctic Research Commission, a member of the toon meer Polar Research Board of the National Academy of Sciences, and was a research associate of the Arctic Studies Center of the Smithsonian Institution for over thirty years. Igor Krupnik is the curator of arctic and northern ethnology in the Department of Anthropology at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution.
