Jane E. Calvert

The theory of a perpetual and amendable constitution and its concomitant idea of popular sovereignty are things that most scholars believe did not exist until the American Founding. John Dickinson was the most notable advocate of this theory, but he did not champion revolution. His thoughts and actions have been misunderstood until now, when they are considered part of the Quaker tradition.
