So this was kinda cool, you know. The performers were all very different and they were diverse, although I think in a way it was kinda unified by the spoken word format. Although I have to say—and I’m not trying to sink Battleship Diversity; I already knew my next two humor books were going to be two Black people—but I think I have some reservations about the spoken word format (ie “stand up”, although as labels go…. Really? Does that tag really have that special something to it?). I mean, it is true that sometimes in print humor it can get a little, I don’t know, like I just deleted this free sample off my Kindle (I’m trying to clear out all the $50 history books I shouldn’t read), and one was like, penguins ended up with souls, and their history somehow mirrors Christian Europe, and I’m like…. Really? Is that like, supposed to be funny? Delete! I mean, David Sedaris isn’t quite as bad as That; I guess that Seddie was okay, you know…. Maybe a little snobbish. But then, you hand a comic a mic, and it’s like, all dick jokes. I mean, there were some politics jokes. —Old racist white people will die soon; their world is coming to an end…. So are they really hurting anybody? (Black queer) girl vs —Confederate statues are the ultimate “participation trophy” guy vs the guy who’s like, Tell me your least favorite race, I’ll go first, white people no repeats, and I swear to the King, nobody yelled out, “Leprechauns!” or “The forest people!”, you know. What a wasted opportunity. He was actually a little, I mean, I like woke humor I guess, almost a little too much; but he was like, anxious, you know. So he covered it up with that hell yeah I’m woke; down with whitey! ~ But it’s like, Isn’t whitey our friend? Maybe he lives in the forest!

But yeah, it was mostly just dick jokes. I guess I laughed; I’m not offended, but I don’t know. I mean, they just don’t feel…. Like, 🤯 You know, like, “nothing is real”, etc etc; it’s just kinda like…. Oh, yes, the dick. Very important to sex. How droll.

I guess I have a narrow range, lol. I don’t want there to be a multiple choice test at the end like we’re in fifth grade learning about science through science jokes, but I don’t want to feel like there was nothing; I learned nothing, you know…. I want to feel…. 🤯

I feel like watching this made me moderately less likely to go to a comedy club, but I’m not sure yet if that’s the reaction I want to have to this sort of thing, lol.… (meer)
