1039 An American Melodrama: The Presidential Campaign of 1968, by Lewis Chester Godfrey Hodgson Bruce Page (read 4 Jan 1970) As the decade of the Sixties ended and the Seventies began, I have been reading this book, which is an account of the 1968 Presidential campaign by three young British reporters. It is very readable--although so much of it was so recent that it seemed like a kind of waste of time to be reading it. I agreed quite a bit with the authors' viewpoint, which was anti-Nixon. The authors were a little harder on Hubert than I'd be, but not really unfair. In previous years I've read Ted White's books but it is said that his book on the 1968 campaign is kind to Nixon, so I think I'll skip reading it, having read this book on the campaign.… (meer)
