This is the first Lacan I've ever read, so I have to admit, much of the theory that Karen Coats explores in this book went over my head. Some of Lacan's concepts are difficult to understand for even an experienced scholar, so I don't feel too stupid, heh.One thing I did like about this book is that Coats is careful to explain concepts through examples in children's books. If you're familiar with Charlotte's Web, Peter Pan, or Alice in Wonderland, you'll find these examples very helpful.I get the feeling I'm going to have to re-read this book repeatedly. The professor who assigned it told us that she's re-read it several times and is still fuzzy on some points, because... well, Lacan is just difficult to comprehend. And though some of Lacan's theories are flat out misogynistic and short-sighted, his theories can work quite well as an analytical framework for children's/YA literature.… (meer)
