Summary: This book follows a story of the Berlin Wall and how it separates a family. In the end, the family gets reunited and it is a beautiful ending.
Reflection: I love how this book speaks about reunification and how many people go through the separation many families go through because of a wall or because of certain circumstances. This book is a good piece of literature to have in your classroom.

Wall tells the story of separation of families by the Berlin Wall. This book carries an important message that can help us understand and become aware of border separation. Growing up by the border makes this sound all too familiar and I would definitely use this book in my classroom. It can be tough to introduce this topic to children as it is sad, but it is real and is a major part in modern day society.

A young boy and his mother and sister were separated from their father when the Berlin Wall was built between East and West Germany. This story shows the family’s struggle as they try to cross the wall so they can be together again. This spectacular book is based on true stories about the Berlin Wall. Powerful illustrations teamed with an emotive story line make this an impressive tale of triumph over adversity.

The main focus of the book written by Tom Clohosy Cole centers a young boy that encounters a historic part of modern history, the Berlin Wall. This wall was built to separate the ´New Germany' versus the 'Old Germany'. As history has told us the WW II in 1945, Germany decided to built this Wall to separate themselves because of the believes and systems that the country had, but nevertheless that implied a lot more, including the breakings and separation of a thousand of families. Cole describes in his story, a family that was broken because of this event. The boy narrates that his father was stuck when the wall was building, separating him from his wife and children. That made the boy miss him, and dream about his father coming back. He knew the risks of escaping, and that the results could end with escape or death. With hope on his side, he dig a tunnel and when it was ready the family departed. The hard part was not to been seen, but when someone noticed them escaping, he told his story about looking for his dad, and the soldier let them go. At the end, the reunited happily. The story is sad but with a good ending, the kids could understand a dark time in the world with this story, and that problems can be solved with kindness, respect and empathy, like the soldier that let the family pass and continue to look for the father.

This book is about a family that has been separated by a wall in Germany. This story would be very good to have in a text set especially here near the border because it is a very relatable topic. I really liked the illuistrations in the book, they add a strong visual effect to the storyline.

This book, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, describes a young boy’s plan to escape from the East with his mother and sister to rejoin his father in the West. When they are discovered during the midnight escape by an East German guard ... the guard decides to let them go.

The Wall takes place during the time of the Berlin Wall. It tells a sordid tale of a young boy and his mother and siblings and their attempt to escape East Berlin to meet up with the father. Vivid and nique pictures of dark walls built under fantastical proportions overemphasizes the divide and shizms it created between family. I admired the dark and telling pictures as they blended unique tones of loneliness and recovery. The content is a bit heavy for very young children and slightly older readers might find this sense of life being stolen from you and searching for joy is the best sometimes we can do. I felt the story itself was rather dull and the relied on too much on the supposition that the reader will understand. It did not convey that very well.½

The author of this story tells us of the time where the Berlin wall were being built. We learn from the pages that the family was separated from their father. I understand of this time that it was not easy to get across the wall- almost impossible, really. I enjoyed reading this book because of the way that light is used. Every time the little boy speaks of his father, his father is pictured in light. This is a huge contrast compared to the darkness of the rest of the book. There is also light on the pages where the little boy has hope. I liked that the author used this element to show the huge difference between the two moods portrayed in the book, the somberness and the hope and excitement. I also especially liked that the security guard let them go just in time for them to find their dad digging to get to their side, that was a nice twist!

Wall by Tom Clohosy Cole is a story about a family who is separated from their father by the Berlin Wall. Throughout this story, the gutter of the book is used to keep them separated. The young boy in the story comes up with a plan to get to their father by digging a tunnel. The boy and his mother and sister are caught, but the guard lets them go. When they finally find the father, he was digging a tunnel himself to get to him.

I love how this story ends with a happy ending because this time was anything but happy. The illustrations and font color are very unique but goes well with the story line.

Arriving at his father's house, he finds that he was also digging a tunnel. The illustrations are portray a bleak East Germany and have an animated quality.

This short story takes place around the time the Berlin Wall was built, and it is about a boy, his sister, and his mother who were separated from their father. Narrated in the boy's perspective, he talks about missing his father, and he eventually comes up with a plan to be reunited with his father. Tom Cole writes about the struggles that people went through trying to escape, but he wrote it in a way that was not sad to read. This story just grazes the surface about what really happened, and I think it is a good introduction to get young children to know about the Berlin Wall, but without the gore.
The overall theme of this story is that family does win overall, or even kindness can go a long way. In this story the guard let the little boy, his sister, and his mom go after they told him that they were trying to get to his father. Although it was clear that he was not supposed to, it was the kindness in his heart (pathos) that let the family go.½

This is such a haunting story. Mostly because we don't exactly know what wall they are talking about. The writer used the comparison of the two sides of the walls side by side with only the gutter of the page to separate the two pictures. The story lacked words, but made up for them with stunning images of dirty apartments and those who did not make it across the wall. The colors used were darker to allow the mood of the story to be more serious than light hearted.

It's about Berlin Wall. It's also good boo for questioning and Making connection of text-to-world. Father was separated his family by the wall and the family found the way to find him.

I loved this heartwarming book. Wall tells of a family who was separated by the building of the Berlin wall. The mother and son were stuck in East Berlin while the father was on the other side. The family thought and thought of ways to escape, and the son decided to dig a tunnel. On their way, a soldier stopped them, but he decided to help after hearing their story. Once they arrived to the father's home, they caught him digging a tunnel to get to them! This is a great story of family reuniting with such a great ending.

The building of the Berlin Wall caused a wife and her two children to be separated from their husband and father. One of the sons was trying to find a way to his dad. He then started digging until he got through to the other side. Once he did, the family went to find the dad. They were just in time. When they arrived to the dad's house, they saw him digging to go search for them. Like the story says, "Nothing should come between a father and his family."

Wall is about a family that was separated when the Berlin Wall was built. The little boy and his mother escape to the other side of the wall in order to find dad. The main character had imagined what it would be like to get to the other side, and he shows through his brave actions that even during war family is most important.

The genre of this book is historical fiction, as it tells the story of a boy and his mother and his sibling stuck on one side of the Berlin wall, while his father is on the other side. The boy dreams of escaping to the other side to get back to his father. One day, he begins digging, and when the tunnel was ready, he got his mother and sister ready, and they left one night. They were discovered by a guard, but he let them go. When they got to the other side, they found their father, who was also digging a tunnel to get to them.
