Eric Colossal

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this one. The ARC states the intended age range is 8-12, and there is a kiddish feel to the art. At the same time, it didn't entirely read (to me) like a story that would be interesting/exciting to kids in that age range. I'll be curious to see how kids in the target demographic feel about it.

I had such a hard time getting into this book. Rutabaga is a chef, and they love to cook. But their love of cooking gets them mixed up in all sorts of adventures. Like plucking mushrooms off a long lost enchanted sword. Or following a Viking like clan as they defeat the creature that killed their queen. Overall this book was OK I just didn’t care about it or the characters. I do have book 2 however I doubt I read it.

Cute, but grosser than the first one. Eating spiders, blech!

Cute, funny and an entertaining twist on the fantasy adventurer trope. I love that Rutabaga's whole plan is to discover rare ingredients, and eat whatever comes along.
