This volume is one man's memories of 77 days trapped in an isolated base in Northern Vietnam in January and February 1968 surrounded by Viet Cong and forces of the North Vietnam Army. Each day, he and his fellow 6500 Marines, faced shelling from long range guns and rockets as well as mortars of various sizes.forcing them to hide and live in trenches and foxholes. Only method of supply was by air and it was costly. Out numbered 7 to 1, they anticipated a fight to the death.

Organized much like a diary but but mostly made up of short essays that cover topics such as "Mail Call", "A Reporter". Cooking". "Camera" and "The Sounds of War". He did borrow a camera for a couple of days and some of the photos he took are in the book.… (meer)
