Chirp is an adventurous little chick that decides to explore the world away from the rest of his family. He does not know what awaits him on the other side of the fence. He has to dodge a cat and go by two large birds. When the wind picks him up, he ends up in a pot of blue paint. A little girl rescues him from the paint, but he runs off home. His siblings do not recognize him, but his mother does and he is welcomed home.

This is a sweet story that I'm sure small kids will love. It's simple and the illustrations depict little yellow fluffs with a few line for chicks. The simple illustrations and large print make this an easy story to read to and with young children. The message that mother will love and recognize her baby anywhere will reassure little ones. It is also a story to teach about the dangers of wandering off in a simple, non-scary way. A good addition to a family library and for use in kindergarten and pre-school classrooms.
