The Comité Colbert is a consortium/think tank composed of a large number of French luxury product companies (Givenchy, Lancome, Lacoste, etc.). In a series of workshops, they created a number of neologisms, art, and music centered on luxury. Then they worked with six French science fiction authors to create a shared world set 60 years in the future where luxury plays an important role.

Perhaps the best aspect of this collection is that the world it is set in is generally a positive one. The creators call it a utopia, but people still face a number of problems, especially the aftereffects of a pandemic a couple of decades earlier. It would be enough if it simply weren't a dystopia, but there is a general sense of optimism throughout.

The stories are good (none of them are subpar) and it is refreshing to see some science fiction from a non-English speaking perspective. I'm not sure about some of the choices the translator made, but I don't speak French and she does, so I'm not going to criticize too harshly.
