As is my style, let's get right to pointing out flaws and complaining about it.

This review contains mild spoilers that imo don't diminish the reading experience but if you want to go in completely blind, reading reviews is probably not the smartest move anyway.

Early on there is a scene where someone forces people to spew secrets with his powers as a demonstration of his powers. The kinds of secrets he lets people spill are completely inappropriate and his last attempt is totally unacceptable but apparently everyone is just fine with that for some reason. I think the author forgot that those characters didn't know each other well at that point yet which made their reactions feel out of whack.

There is a quad friendship that suffers from multiple very cringy and melodramatic confession of friendship scenes and the like.
So if you can't take things similar to "I really love you all, you are my best friends, *tears up*. Friend answers: I really love you all too." or "I would die for you all." and worse, you might want to skip this one. It's a bit much in places and its not just one scene either.

At one point important people think that two characters have a culturally scorned love affair even tho they are not shagging but apparently, they can not explain this for fear of the truth of why they were caught in these compromising positions being revealed. (That was a bad sentence, sorry.) That at least is what the Author tries to sell us but if you think about it for just a minute a perfectly reasonable explanation that is close enough to the truth to pass by any lie detection ability (which is a prominent thing) is obvious and relatable. In fact, the feared truth detection paradoxically makes this explanation perfectly workable. Luckily the misunderstandingâ„¢ didn't become relevant at least not in this book. I mention this flaw because this conflict receives a LOT of page-time while being easily solvable all that time which was frustrating.

Another problematic thing is that the supernatural community is assaulted by extremist non-magical humans repeatedly and is apparently completely unable to defend itself properly which I just find bonkers. They are so incredibly powerful and have virtually unlimited financial resources at their disposal and their apparent elite protection is a constant topic but despite all that they get ripped to shreds by frontal attacks etc. that never in a thousand years should've been possible.
I really hope it turns out the attackers had massive help from moles and traitors within to pull these attacks off (but there were no indications anywhere in this book afaict). Otherwise, this completely compromises the core of the plot.
/rant off

Final thoughts:
I really hope the next volumes don't confirm my fears of these flaws but I am a bit disillusioned at this point because I almost never have seen a redeeming second book in these kinds of situations. It's usually the opposite. You only realize how bad it really is in the second one.

Ignoring all the maybe-flaws I can recommend this to romance and friendship fans in a paranormal setting. Sadly the end is very much open and cliffhangery so I wouldn't recommend reading this as a standalone.
Before writing this review I was tempted to give this 4 stars. I enjoyed it very much but after writing all these problems down I can not in good conscience do so.

(Btw there only is an audiobook of the first book.)

Thoroughly addicting!

From the first paragraph I was hooked. Poppy... A klutzy and intelligent woman is boxed in. In her world you either have to get married. By age 24 or join the military. You don't really have a choice with your life. Less when your father is the head of one of the main world factions. Letting off steam the night before her big break for freedom she runs into a big, battle. Little did she know she'd just met her future. Settle down for a fun ride with humor and lots of twists and turns. I for one can't wait for the next installment in this brilliant world!!… (meer)

Sinfully fun...

Like all the others in this BRILLIANT SERIES the storyline just flows . I do love the witty repoirte between all the guys who basically act like huge, musclebound kids with talents LOL. EVEN better when they meet and mate their matches. So far each of these women have been fierce, independent in some way, and darn ANYONE who messed with anyone they love (that includes messing with fellow mates or the guys). As usual we have bad people to go after too.... Have fun seeing how it all goes down! My only hope is that SOMEHOW, SOMEWAY God comes back. After all they are made up of magic. Poppy is still around and no longer roaming the hills like a zombie.... So that gives me some semblwnce of hope. I know God said goodbye in the wind in this one... However I still have hope... Especially as one of the people who heard him felt it may not be the end. So I'm firmly on the somehow agod can come back corporeally again! > END SPOILER. Anyhow... The books true to course has oodles of action and fun, add one truly rotten father, true love, magic, friendship, and fiercely amazing women..stir all together and usually add a battle to be fought..... And voila we have SUPREME ENJOYMENT! I myself cannot wait for "TRICK" which will be the next book. If you haven't read any if this series yet however, PLEASE at least read book 1 TRIGGER first or you may be lost. Go ahead and ENJOY!!!… (meer)

Back to the Future, and Kings/Prodigies unite!!

Oh how I've missed these amazing characters! It has indeed been a while, but well worth the wait. Thanks to Philip Masters our poor Caro is thrust back in time to a time when her dear friends have no friggin clue who she is. Plus they're considered Prodigies and NOT Kings in this timeline. Lots of mischief abounds as they all have fun escaping the current Kings fromntime to time. For all anyone is aware of, she has zero past aside from what she's fed them. Using a different name , she's highly aware she must keep info of the future away from everyone. Sadly that means she has to lie by ommission. Letting everyone know she had a very tough childhood in Foster homes wasn't a lie... But apparently not everyone believes all that she is. A couple Elders (from her time at least) take it upon themselves to covertly investigate Caro. Suffice to say all Hades breaks loose upon her discovery of this. Buckle up as this is one heckuva ride... Multiple time lines, friends, enemies, intrigue, politics... And oh so much more. Warning : to fully comprehend what's going on, it's best to have an understanding of this world. In my opinion i'd say to first read at least some if not all the previous books in this series. Believe you me it's well worth it . All different paranormal. Factions are represented : mate, vampire, shifter, elemental and beyond.... Oh so much fun! My guess is this book is leading us into the next big cataclysmic event... So we shall have to brace for impact and enjoy ourselves along the way! I for one look forward to the follow up.… (meer)
