I didn't realize when I picked up this audio book on my library's app that I'd selected a kids' book. Realizing that as I finished the book, mitigates some but not all of my disappointment with this light-hitting, superficial and fairly whitewashed history.

This was a pretty fun book about the Stanley Cup, and hockey history. I love reading old hockey stories and learned a few new ones from this book. I also love seeing old hockey photos and appreciated those as well.

As a long-time hockey fan who played women's hockey in high school and has become disenchanted with the NHL due to the violence and sexism in the league, I personally very much appreciated the inclusion of women's hockey in the "other leagues" section, and the inclusion of the fact that the NHL is going to have to reckon with CTE sooner or later, whether they want to or not. I appreciated the emphasis on the fact that the old rules (or lack of rules) about helmets and fights were, quite frankly, terrible.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. This would probably be a pretty good gift for a hockey-loving friend or family member out there.

Thank you to the publisher for the free copy which I received via Netgalley, in exchange for my honest review.½

Excellent book for kids wanting to know more about special forces. Not gory, even though death is mentioned.

This comic is entirely in Spanish, so I can not speak of the dialogue in it. The comic itself does a good job of telling the story of the Alamo with the images in it. Because of the quality of the images it is easy to follow even though I do not speak Spanish. Although this book is easy to follow, I don't think this would be good for a classroom strictly because of the adult nature of the story. Although I could argue that the adult nature could be good for creating dialogue especially since most kids today love Marvel movies which feature many scence's with violence in them. This book though could be good for a Spanish speaker to read and retell to you the teacher, since it is an engaging story.

This graphic novel is aimed at upper elementary students and does on excellent job of introducing them to the tragic sinking of the Titanic. Colorful illustrations and succinct captions explain the details of the ship and its inevitable loss after hitting the iceberg. The book includes a glossary, bibliography, and websites for those inclined to learn more. Part of a series of historical events, this book will appeal to both boys and girls.

Dwayne Wade was born January 17th in Chicago, Illinois. When Dwayne Wade was two years old his parents separated. When he was eight years old his sister Tragil tricked him into staying with his father in the south side. This moment changed his life for the better. As a young adult he chose to attend Marquette University, but he was unable to play the first season of college basketball because of his low academic scores. The next season he brought Marquette to their first USA Conference Championship, and then to the Final Four, which they hadn’t made since 1977. Two years later, Dwayne Wade declared for the 2003-2004 NBA draft. He was selected by the Miami Heat and was picked as number five. In 2006, Dwayne Wade won his first of three rings as well as the Final MVP, which means best player in the finals. In the 2010-2011 he became a free agent but decided to stay in Miami when Lebron James and Chris Bosh joined the Heat.
I thought the biography about Dwayne Wade was really interesting because he is one of my favorite basketball players.
Another fact I did not know was that he went to Marquette University. Dwayne Wade is inspiring me to become a basketball player just like Dwayne Wade. Something that I really liked is that his sister tricked him into bringing him to his dad’s home to live with for the better. I did not like it that Dwayne Wade had to miss his first basketball season in college. That is my paragraph about Dwayne Wade.

We all know Ivanka Trump as the current President of the United States’ daughter. Find out other interesting facts about her personal life and how she came to be the person she is today.
This biography of Ivanka Trump is recommended for readers grades 4th through sixth. There is very little information given about her early years. Most of the information is about her influence on President Trump’s campaign. The author seemed to over shadow her accomplishments with those of her father. He did not hold true to the title. It is a good source for information as the various reference aids make it easy to find information about the subject.

Part of the Sports All-Stars series from Lerner that showcases contemporary athletes in a variety of fields – soccer, skiing, swimming, basketball, and gymnastics.

In this entry, Matt Doeden provides a brief look at the life of Cristiano Ronaldo, providing information about career highlights and his personal life, but essentially glossing over anything prior to his success on the soccer field. The focus seems to be that he is a really good soccer player who makes a lot of money – and his early life which included expulsion from school and a heart condition that required surgery are given a sentence each and no further explanation. The book is a strange hodge-podge of information – not only does the reader learn interesting facts about his work ethic, fitness regime, and charity work, but then they also learn about his numerous romantic attachments, single fatherhood, and his foray into fashion and fragrances. It feels, at times, that his exploits off the pitch supersede his accomplishments on it. And it’s hard to take seriously a chapter that features a wax statue of Ronaldo in a museum that he built on his home island that is solely dedicated to his accomplishments. Optional: Purchase where interest in Soccer biographies is high, as this will likely be quickly dated.

This book The World's Fastest Animals was fascinating to learn how fast these animals could run. They reach speeds that are about speed limits on highways. If they can run as fast as cars imagine how fast they could run in maximum qualities. It was surprising to see every animal kingdom on there except Amphibians. They all look like they have good shaped bodies for the speed. Some were very exciting to see how fast they go such as the Gazelle. I definitly thought the Cheetah would higher than it was. All around a good informational book about animals.

The book was interesting and very good. It was exciting, surprising and very interesting. It had all of the key components to be a good Non-Fiction book. Over all it was a very good read. It wasn't to long and was not boring to read. I would recommend it to animal lovers and science geeks.

I love Choose Your Own Adventure books. I think they are so much fun and really adds an element of excitement to a story when you have a hand in the ending.

Summary: This book describes the game of football, including some history and the rules.
Genre: Informational, because the author is telling the reader all about the subject of the book: football. I would say that this is a pretty good informational book because the author uses lots of visuals to make the information applicable and interesting. I would say that the author could have made the book a little more interesting in the way that they presented the information, but overall it is okay.
Medium: Photography and digital
Age Appropriateness: primary- intermediate
Use in a classroom: This could be used to allow children to do research on a topic they are interested. Based on the relative easiness of how the information is presented, it could be a good book to help introduce what research is and how we can get information from a book.

Nonfiction, well written, photographs. I would use this for 3rd -6th grade to interest sporty kids to learn about basketball and figure out the mechanics of playing the game. This is a well-written book with brief but good information about the basketball sport including its history and famous people who play in basketball. This is an informational book because it teaches about a real life subject.

Genre: Informational
Age: Primary or intermediate
Review: This book was all about football. It explained the rules and the positions of players. This is an informational book because it explained the game of football and how to play it.
Use in classroom: This would be a good book for boys because it is about a sport they like and filled with information. The format isn't a typical "story book" so it would be a fun read.
Media: Full color photos

Age Appropriateness (Primary, Intermediate, Middle School): Intermediate/Middle School
Review/Critique: This is about basketball, and describes in detail everything you need to know about basketball. The book includes both how to play, terms that are specific to basketball, as well as players that have made history in basketball. This book is informational because it is factual based and can be read by anyone regardless of background knowledge.
Comments on Use: I do not think I would use this book in my classroom unless I was incorporating basketball into my curriculum. This book was meant to introduce the concept of basketball but not meant to be apart of most curriculums. Although I may not use this book in my class, I would defiantly like to have books like this available for all of students.

Great book to bring into a fourth grade class when discussing the Alamo in a Texas History lesson. It is set up in comic form and provides great illustrations. The chapters are short and follow a distinct timeline. This book is in the same series as the Robert E. Lee graphic novel.
