This made good use of its unreliable narrator, a young woman struggling against psychosis. The fantasy world that seeped into her reality along with her intense obsessions and compulsions, really added to the psychological suspense in this genre-bending thriller. It was slow to get started but once the groundwork was laid I had trouble putting it down. I wouldn’t have known about this author without Goodreads giveaways and now I’ll be watching to see what she writes next.

Often I read books/listen to audiobooks to distance myself from real life, but this one I kept coming back to because I wanted to spend more time with anxious, flawed Katrina in a world where bad things happen to good people, but where good things also happen. It's a place where hunches and a strong fantasy life (or mental illness... potato, potahto) can lead a person to truths that help them do the right thing (eventually).
