H. Paul Doucette

Ripped through this thriller by a new author to me, H. Paul Doucette. The book gripped me from the first page as detective Matt Murphy seeks the killer through the streets and nightclubs of New York. Meanwhile, handsome actors are being killed night after night. Detective Murphy is a former cop, with a bit of a dodgy relationship with the local cops, but he does have a good relationship with most of the low-life's of the area. This comes in handy as he seeks the killer with very little information. His connections aid him and protect him as the situation heats up.
Written in the old-style detective story format, the murders are mostly off-screen and sexual content is minimal. The story is set in the time of the Beats, and the historical mentions of sites in NYC provide an interesting backdrop.
Some of the story stretches the imagination, and there are a few editing needs, but this first book is well-written and worth a look. I'll be looking for more from this author.… (meer)
