Semi-fictional history of Natal and the Zulu to 1840 from a very pro-Zulu perspective. Whilst the author (a journalist not an historian) recognises in the introduction that source material is meagre and of doubtful quality, he confidently paints the Zulus as a peace-loving, harmonious, law-abiding society whilst all the whites are uniformly 'cartoon baddies'. The mfecane is not mentioned at all. This short book gives a satisfactory outline of all the major events of the first contact between Zulus and white settlers but the author's one-sided judgments are highly questionable.… (meer)
