Dyke's earlier publications were devoted to automobile engines with a 40 page chapters entitled "Airplane Supplement" but after Lindbergh, Commander Byrd and Chamberlin's transoceanic flights everyone interested in aviation from builders and enthusiasts to the general public wanted access to the technical information. Here the publishers have dealt with aircraft gasoline engines and their accessories.
