This story broke my heart in a way that few can. A tale of first teenage love, the unexplainable, and the misunderstanding and fear of a small town culminating in a crushing tragedy. Every element worked incredibly well together, the prose is excellent, the characters and their motivations completely believable, and every situation logically flows from the last through to the conclusion. There is a greater message in the story too, about fear and superstition, and how mankind destroys the beautiful things in this world that it doesn't understand, but it is handled so subtly and so deftly that the story never feels preachy or didactic. A very powerful and resonant story.
