Enjoyable account of some of his political campaigns and beliefs, and relating them to his faith. Not much about his life events, although he didn't get on with his father who seems to have been a bully. A lifelong bachelor who was elected as a Labour MP in his 20s and was expelled by Jeremy Corbyn and the Militant tendency aged 78. Amusing about his Anglo Catholic background saying that he went to Universsity, (Hull), a regular churchgoer but had learned nothing about the faith. He is very clear that you could not rely on Altruism all the time, to make society work, there had to be a strong place for Self-interest. Was early on to sale of Council houses, but then Mrs T took over the policy and almost gave them away. Ppoints out that the loss of most manufacturing jobs here has stripped men of decent jobs hence the single parent families to be found everywhwere. He is keen on the principle of National Insurance to cover a wider range of services, and that non-contributory benefits simply encourages dishonesty.… (meer)
