I was perplexed at first when I read the title. What the heck is Sunnyside? Well, it's a great journey through a fun part of Toronto history and of course, I've fallen in love with Mike Filey's writing style. Anything that makes me forget that I'm reading nonfiction is awesome in my books. I have a full review here: http://www.examiner.com/publishing-in-toronto/toronto-book-review-i-remember-sun.... But if you're not up to reading a few more words, let me say this is an excellent history of Toronto that is well written and the pictures, again, I'll say are amazing.

For some reason, Goodreads has decided I can't leave a rating. **sigh** 5 Stars. Okay? Good. Loved this book and I'm now a bit of a history buff. I didn't know history was actually...interesting. Imagine that.

I have a full review here: http://www.examiner.com/books-in-canada/spotlight-on-canadian-authors-review-of-... but if you don't want to go there, I'll say I recommend you pick up this book. Mike has a very distinct writing style that makes you feel as though you're sitting in his living room sipping coffee (or whatever beverage you like, we Canadians are hospitable) and listening to him tell you a story. I enjoyed all of his books very much.

Mike Filey's writing is comfortable and easy and Toronto Sketches 9 is a very interesting read. It's actually my favorite of his books so far, although the newest book [bc:Toronto Sketches 10: "The Way We Were"|8572716|Toronto Sketches 10 "The Way We Were"|Mike Filey|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51xGr6sFqfL._SL75_.jpg|13441506] is a close second. In my full review here: http://www.examiner.com/publishing-in-toronto/toronto-book-review-toronto-sketch... I mention that this isn't history we get in school, but it's one we should know.

When I first picked up this book I was kind of like "Eww, a boat?" and I was pleasantly surprised. The pictures Mike Filey used in this book are amazing. What a great look at one of Canada's major cities and a small part of its history. Just goes to show you should never judge a book by its cover...or genre. [Toronto Flashbacks 2] by [Morley Filey] is the second book of postcards of old pictures of Toronto, Ontario. That's in Canada, if you were wondering.

Pictures ranging from 1888 and 1945. Amazing pictures. It's like seeing the city in a different set of eyes.

Gotta keep this one.

Toronto Flashbacks 1 by Morley Filey is a book of postcards of old pictures of Toronto, Ontario.

Pictures ranging from 1873 and 1927. That alone would have made me buy the book for only a dollar, but when my husband looked at it he was surprised to see on one of the postcards his mothers childhood friend, Mertyle Cook, who won a gold medal at the Amsterday Olympics in 1928.

This is definately a book that I will be keeping.

This is an attractive, large format book. The front and back covers are one painting of a Toronto street scene (Queen St. at Bay St.) showing the New City Hall, Old City Hall, and three streetcars from different eras. The inside has the history of public transit by streetcars, including many pictures of older Toronto. Charming but of most interest to a real tram enthusiast.
