Katherine Gibson Fougera was the daughter of Francis Marion Gibson, a U.S. Army officer and his wife Katherine, who served on the Dakota frontier. She wrote a biography of her mother based on stories the latter told her about army life during the 1870s and 1880s, and candid glimpses of the couple's good friends, George and Elizabeth Custer.

I love this book and bought it as a teen years(and years) ago. History attached to George Custer is fascinating and messy because his wife is reputed to have heavily suppressed many negative reports and she outlived many contemporaries. A very interesting look at the life of a woman married to someone in Custer’s Calvary.

This book was written by the daughter of one of General George A. Custer's officers from interviews she did with her Mother. This is history on a more personal level. It provides good background on life in the frontier cavalry.
