It’s been a while since I’ve read this series so I had to re-acquaint myself with the characters but it didn’t take long to remember and the author helps out by explaining things briefly so people who have not read the other books in the series can follow along. I remember why I liked this series so much when I read it. The characters are loveable and sometimes despicable and the storyline is believable and well thought out.

Jill is a half-breed vampire/human. She has some powerful abilities but has not quite learned how to use them but she is learning fast. She is training to be a VC Warrior (Vampire Council Warrior) but she is the only woman to ever attempt it. She has to work twice as hard as the men to prove her worth and she is determined to achieve her goal.
Slade is VC Warrior who happens to be a doctor too. He is helping train the half-breeds in Cincinnati to become VC Warriors.

Throughout the other books in the series we’ve seen Jill and Slade’s attraction for each other and how Slade was fighting it. In this book, he finally gives in and he’s a possessive mofo but Jill seems to like it. I could never be with anyone who growls at his friends for just complimenting me. It would annoy the hell out of me but oh well, vampires are macho men so I’ve pretty much gotten used to the jealous over possessiveness in paranormal romance books. Slade is a dominant lover and Jill loves it.

Alice hates Jill. Alice is a vampire who used to be a blood donor for the VC Warriors. She was a slutty thing and thought she owned all of them so when they started getting married, she became jealous. Jill didn’t put up with her crap and Alice eventually was tossed out because she tried to kill Jill and some of the other women. Alice is now the mayor’s fiancé and she has talked him into making a half-way house where they are capturing and imprisoning half-breeds because people believe they are dangerous. Now, Alice has put a hit out on one of the warriors named Jax and has paid someone to capture Jill so she can torture and kill her.

There was another storyline going along with the Jill and Slade story. Jax, a fairly new character who is kind of a jerk but starts being attracted to Caroline, the sister of one of the warrior’s mates. I’m a sucker for a jerk. I don’t know why but I am so I look forward to his story. I thought that Sloan’s story is next but maybe I’m wrong. We’ll see.

Ok, this is really a novella and you can read it in about an hour and a half. Its a good shifter story. I love a love-at-first-sight trope so this was right up my alley. The characters were likable and even though the book was short, it was engaging.
So, I didn't give it 5 stars because it felt so rushed. I wanted to know more about the characters and plot but you just don't get it. I'm sure there will be more books (maybe this will be a series?) so hopefully those questions will be addressed.

Snarky, witty, laughable, loveable characters. Gotta love'em. Good character & plot development with descent sex scenes & drama. Just wished everyone was like the Nicole character......The world would be a much better place.

Wow. This is a hard review to write. I am afraid of talking about the story or plot because I can't figure out how to do it without giving spoilers. So I will just say that this is somewhat of an interim novella, it is not a love story of a single couple. Slade and Jill feature heavily in this installment, as do Jax and Caroline. But its not either of "their" stories as a couple if that makes sense. Of course we still get bits and pieces from other warriors and their mates, plus we get two new characters - Blaze and Hunter. Hunter is a crossover from the Lee County Wolves series, and he made me want to jump over and read [b:Forbidden Hunger|25753091|Forbidden Hunger (Lee County Wolves, #1)|Teresa Gabelman|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1436501895s/25753091.jpg|45595985].

This story was a bit of a tearjerker, so make sure to have your tissues ready. The warriors and their mates are going through something pretty heavy, and it was touch and go there for a while as to how it would play out. I do feel like the story jumped around a bit, but once the action got going I did not notice it quite as much. I like that this series has an overarching storyline that continues to move forward with each warrior finding his/her fated mate while still fighting the bad guys. I think Jax and Caroline are up next... but I am really looking forward to Sloan's book.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. 4 stars / 2 flames.

I adored Kim and Duncan’s story and for those of you looking for the new character, Slade is HAWT!!!! The love and connection those two have is undeniable and Duncan will go thru whatever measures he has to, to save the one he loves. But will Kim be able to return to the life she once knew and how forgiving will everyone be? What secrets that Kenny has held close will be revealed? This story has kept me on the edge of my seat, laughing and crying at so many points. The Warriors are the funniest characters and the bantering back and forth between them shows what a true brotherhood and family really is. This is one of those series that will hold you captive till the next story comes out.

I was one of the lucky ones to get a copy of this book from the author and I will be posting an honest review. I love Mrs. Gableman’s writing and this book was one that caught me up so much, I read it in one night and refused to be interrupted while reading it. It grasped ahold of me and wouldn’t let me go. I found myself smiling, laughing, and even choked up while reading it. This is one of those stories you want to read and will find yourself asking when the next book will be out.
Young teens are being turned into half breeds. But how and why is the biggest question that haunts the Vampire Warriors.
Jared and Damon’s best bet is to get them in custody so they can be watched for signs of change and see if they can clue them in on what is going on. Adam seems to be their best bet on finding the answers they need.
When Tessa is around Jared, all he smells is honeysuckle. Her hair is the color of burnished copper in a shapely cut reaching past her shoulders. Her eyes are the color of lake moss and shaped like tear drops, drooping down on each side. This is something he hasn’t felt in a thousand years.
Tessa has taken on the responsibility of taking care of her brother Adam after their mother passes away, their father takes off and their Gramps is put in a home. She’s not sure how to take the compliments Jared is tossing her way or the protective nature he feels for her. No one has ever done that for her before. But her main priority is making sure her brother doesn’t turn rogue. Does she have the means to save him and is there any chance of a cure for him or others like him? Does she hold the key to saving them?

I won this book from a contest on Black Words White Pages blog. I loved, loved, loved Damon. Everyone needs a Damon in their life. What an easily likeable character in every single way.
The story is about Nicole who is working as a case worker for vampire and human children. She can understand the foster care system as she was in one as she grew up. When Damon and his crew are brought in to teach her class defensive moves, a fire rises between the two that will connect them more than either of them could imagine. But Nicole has a price on her head and needs someone to protect her now. Will she be safe and not allow harm to come to those around her? Can Damon keep her safe? Ms. Gabelman, I am the true winner in this contest to be able to read your works.

*Received e-book through Read It and Reap program from the Shut Up and Read! Goodreads group from author for an honest review
**also posted on Amazon.com under Leanne

Damon (The Protector Series) tells the story of Nicole Callahan, a social worker working with vampire children fostered by human parents. She comes across cases where the parents are torturing and bleeding the vampire children to sell their addictive, potent blood (aka Crimson Rush) to dealers. Similarly, protectors, known as the Vampire Council Warriors, are assigned to train the human social workers in self-defense to better prepare them for hostilities. These warriors are run by the male protagonist, Damon, to whom Nicole instantly feels an attraction. During the course of the book, she comes under fire from an unknown, angry at her success at stopping the atrocities to the vampire children, and obtains her own vampire guard. Can she resist her new protector and will Damon reciprocate her feelings?

I thought the character of Nicole, a tough, acerbic woman with a heart, was endearing. I loved her witty dialogue with her boss, Mitch, and her girl-talk with Pam, the only other female social worker in the department. I admired her dedication to her job as a social worker and her genuine concern for the vampire children under her charge. Gabelman also made Nicole more empathetic by illustrating her past in the foster care system. In addition, I enjoyed the sexual tension between Nicole and Damon, which was palpable off the pages. Gabelman also introduced strong secondary characters in Pam and Jared, another vampire warrior. I especially loved the character of Jared, who acted like a true best friend to both Nicole and Damon as they maneuvered around their feelings for each other. All these elements combined to add depth and intensity to the plot.

On the other hand, I had just one issue with the book. I felt there were too many references to other vampire series that distracted me while I was reading it. I was reminded of J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series (the elite vampire warriors and the mating bond), Stephanie Meier’s Twilight series (the mind reading power and resistance by the beloved woman), and Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series (vampire blood as a drug). I would have liked more originality in the details.

Overall, Damon was a fast, entertaining read (I finished this in one sitting) with heated sensuality and engaging characters. I am eager to read the sequel with the teaser cliffhanger ending. I would recommend this book to fans of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward, the Demonica series of Larissa Ione, and general adult paranormal romances.
