Helen Keller, is a book about Helen Keller’s life. Its starts out telling the reader how Helen became blind and deaf when she was 18 months old. This when Helen is older she is “wild” and her parents send for a teacher to come help them. Helen’s teacher Annie is able to teach her to understand sign language and to sign back, how to write, and read braille, and eventually to speak. Helen is very ambitious and graduates from college, she also writes books. The book talks about shows and movies made about her. But one thing Helen loved to do was travel and be an inspirations to blind and deaf people.
I really loved this book. It is so unbelievable what Helen was able to do with her life, when she had so many things in her way. I also love her teacher and life-long friend Annie that never gave up on her. I think children that read this book will not only learn facts about Helen Keller but also about life lessons, which are so important. This book show patients, kindness, and how to give.
Classroom extensions:
1. After the book, children will learn their name in braille.
2. After the book, children will play a game where they wear a blindfold and pick an object out of a bag and have to feel to guess what it is.

The Story of Muhammad Ali, by Leslie Garrett, was a forty page biography about a once amazing boxer. I personally learned a lot about Ali from this book and it to be very informative. I enjoyed this book and its big picture was to educate children, not only about Ali, but what he stood for. One aspect of this book I really enjoyed was the writing. The writing was rich with large vocabulary words, and challenging sentences. One thing I noticed was the word choice, and how it felt like a upper level reader. Another aspect of the book I enjoyed was the illustrations. Being a boxer Ali had tons of fights, over 60 of them, and the book was full of images of fights, awards, family, friends, and other important parts of his life. The last part of the book I enjoyed was the push topic of religion that was discussed in the book. Ali was a Muslim, and this had a huge effect on his life in the United States, which the book discusses. I found this very interesting and a fun read.

This is a great informational, early chapter reader, appropriate for intermediate level elementary school children. A history of the Wright brothers, and their journey to creating the first successful flying machines, is exceptionally presented in this book. Photographs, and illustrations help this book to grab students attention and to help them understand the material read better.

Genre: The genre of this book is biography/informational. The biography of the Wright brothers creates a genuine picture of these monumental men's lives. Presented in a an engaging and logical manner with informational book aspects such as a glossary, index and defined topical vocabulary, this book will be sure to capture intermediate readers' attention.

Summary: A historical look into the life of the Wright brothers and how the first airplane was made and flown.

Genre: Biography

Critique: This is a great example of a biography because it is a story written about the Wright brothers, but written by someone else, so it is not an autobiography.

Point of View: Written in third person. Uses "he" "she" and "them" to describe the characters in the book.

Media: Photography

The inspirational life of Helen Keller, from cradle to grave, is told in this comprehensive and approachable biography. Profusely illustrated with period photographs, Helen’s life unfolds before the reader in all its richness and complexity. Unlike the typical biographies of Helen Keller written for younger readers that focus on her early life, this DK Biography thoroughly addresses the totality of the evolution of the wild child to the world traveling humanitarian and lecturer. Highly recommended for readers of all ages.

This is a very good volume that details the small things that kids can do to help take care of our planet. This is ideal for children who ask for books on saving the earth, or to use in a display around Earth Day.
