Bibliodiction | Apr 28, 2018 | Creatively written, this second book in the Seychatka series can be smoothly read as a stand-alone. The opening scene quickly sums up the events leading to the present. However, I do recommend reading Nika to get a complete sense of the emotional transition Nika experiences.
I suppose I can safely state the obvious – Nika survives the transformation to become an Immortal, but not without a few serious close calls. Thankfully, her base qualities remain a part of who she is. Nika still prefers peace over war but understands the need to hone fighting skills. The preservation of those who pledge their allegiance to her is now equal to her need for self-preservation. Nika draws from her mother to become a firm but fair ruler.
We are also introduced to Niko, Nika’s twin brother. We get the sense he also desires a firm but fair rule. Raised by Beta of the Totems, Niko was raised and groomed to be their Alpha. After hearing the report of his sister’s death, Niko is ready to raze the Immortals and their compound.
Imminent war is not the only thing plaguing the island. Bodies of both Totems and Immortals have randomly been washing up along the shore. Who could possibly be responsible but each other?
As with the first book, I couldn’t put it down. Watching Nika navigate the treacherous waters was adrenalin-inducing. Between Nika and her advisers, there wasn’t a situation she couldn’t handle.
I am loving this series. I cannot wait for book 3. I need to know what becomes of the siblings. Will peace truly come to the island? What’s going to happen to …? The answers cannot be revealed fast enough…… (meer)

I was a bit anxious for Nika but having the advantage of seeing into the mind of the “kidnapper”, I became torn. I wanted Nika to relent – to open up so her story could continue, but I also wanted her to continue to stand her ground. She was taken to a strange place by a strange man. She awoke to unfamiliar surroundings. The stranger wouldn’t answer her questions… It was a tough ride.
This book was one I just couldn’t put down. The mythology behind the story is fascinating. I am enjoying becoming acquainted with Nika and her new-found friends. Now on to book 2, Totem Rebirth. I need to know if Nika survives the transformation!!… (meer)
