This story starts off with Max Marten and his parents going hunting, they catch and eat a rabbit. I am thinking I do not want to read this to my grandson as he might get upset. As the story goes on, Max is sent out to hunt on his own. As he captures other animals, he realizes that he can not kill them. He ends up eating fruits for his dinner and he really enjoys them. When he arrives home, he does not tell his parents the truth about his hunting. I wish the story had gone on to the point where he tells his parents the truth and they accept it. This story is about the struggle to meet your parent's expectations but being true to yourself. A good lesson for older children, not toddlers.
