George and Gilbert

I was interested in the work of Gilbert & George as conceptual body art in the '70s & early '80s. My friend Becky Weidener & I even crashed a party for them at the Meyerhoff home in early 1984. The Meyerhoff's being very wealthy patrons of the arts in the Baltimore area. Their work is carefully styled & it's funny w/ a sortof glib pseudo-tastefullness. This bk has a textured cover w/ what appear to be slightly blurred details of charcoal drawings on the left pages & texts or photos of G&G posing on the right. Their presence as "living sculptures" evokes a broader societal frozen existence for me. Anyway, no doubt I'm not doing them justice here but their work is unique.… (meer)
