This is an exuberant, amateurish biography of Jimmie Foxx, mainstay of Connie Mack's second Philadelphia Athletics dynasty of the early depression years. The author is writing as a fan, and the book is replete with exclamation points, italics, parenthetical asides, and digressions which don't always have too much to do with his subject. It's a quick, enjoyable read, particularly strong on Foxx's life after baseball, but it's too ramshackle to think of as any sort of masterpiece.
