An extremely interesting and insightful book. Originally a public lecture series at a Canadian university, the book provides a kind of "genealogical" critique of the history of moral and ethical reasoning in (as the title suggests) the English-speaking world. Grant's genealogy ultimately leads him to a discussion the 1974 Roe. V. Wade Supreme Court decision on abortion. He situates the decision as the almost inevitable outcome of the errors and assumptions of the tradition he critiques.
