- Lady Violet Greville, née Graham, was a daughter of James Graham, Duke of Montrose and his wife Caroline Agnes Horsley-Beresford, the first woman in the UK acknowledged as an expert in breeding racehorses. In 1863, she married Algernon William Fulke Greville, 2nd Baron Greville, with whom she had a daughter. During the 1880s and 1890s, she wrote a weekly ladies' column in the London Graphic magazine called "Place aux Dames." She also wrote essays, novels for young people and adults, and books on women's sports, pastimes, and manners, such as The Gentlewoman in Society (1892).
