I am kinda puzzled by the reviews that are upset with Riptide withholding tags and warnings. The scene in question is predictable. Every action by our MCs leads to it, it’s inevitable. One of the MC’s is a rent boy, who likes pain with his sex. There is a crime lord who knows about that kink. We know (in general) that crime lords don’t like to share. What do you think is going to happen when a mark is discovered on Elliot? Coddling, love and care? The scene with punishment (caning) is intense, but short, so is the dub/non-con. Elliot knows what to expect. Doesn’t make the whole thing right, but we all, including the MCs, know what to expect. Why surprise, then?

Actually, it took me a minute to recall that particular scene, to the point that I thought it was edited out in my edition.

But we are all different and have different triggers, so I get it. Here is the warning:

WARNING: This book contains torture, non- and/or dub-con. Graphic murder scene.

My personal impression: I loved the story, I loved how contained the sex was, not every other page or even chapter, I loved that there was so much more going on here, there was no “tunnel vision”. The relationship between the MCs is rather a D/S than BDSM. However, the huge minus for me is an obvious suspect, and lack of attention to the clues on the MCs behalf. Full star off for that :/

Moving onto book two.

3.5 stars-- Hot prompt alert!

Undercover cop meets model meets established couple seeking a third menage in J.T. Hall's "Vice and Exploitation".

Travis: TYLER MOTHERFUCKING HOECHLIN!!! DEREK!!!!!!!!!!!! *coughs*

Dexter/David:

Jason:

Say it one time with me...YUMMY FUCKSTICKS! All of those three in a kinky threesome? *quelts*

Travis is an aspiring model. He picks the best day to go one a go-see for a modeling agency. The agency is a front for a Mexican cartel prostitution ring in San Diego. Photographer David (Dexter) is an undercover cop who has been working undercover for six months. He misses his man and fellow vice detective, Jason.

Though if I was in Dexter's shoes, I'd probably be semi attached to Jason's groin. Just saying. I have a disgusting crush on that wrestler.

What was I saying? Oh yeah...

So Dexter and Jason are not out at their job, have been in an open relationship for years and both miss each other because no one plays them like each other. Did I mention Dexter is a switch and Jason is a Dom?

They like to co-top when a third is added to the mix.

See all of this? Hot.

But something about this story was hot and cold for me. :(

Maybe it's because I've already read one of BDSM menage at its finest a few months ago Fated by Bey Deckard and every menage I've tried to read (especially kinky ones) since then pales in comparison? *shrugs*

This is my fourth or however many menage I've read and tried since then and at least I finished this. But the sex scenes, while hot, didn't really do much. Maybe if I was newer to kinky MMM, I'd probably be ecstatic. I'm a little to the right past meh.

The story is good. The writing easy to follow along. The author stuck the prompt. I liked most of the interpretations.

Some niggles that kinda ruined the moment for me:

1) I know the modeling agency was a front...but which agency would offer coffee and doughnuts to potential models. If I were Travis, I'd have hightailed my cute ass outta there. Modeling agencies offering water? I'd buy that. Coffee? Maybe. Doughnuts? Nothing doing. It's either a set up or test to see if you'd take it.

2) An even bigger misstep - Travis thought this, "He'd always prided himself for his self-control. Heck a lot of his acquaintances didn't know he was gay".

Oh really? Then what was Travis commenting on his Facebook page whiles sandwiched between "two beefcakes" who were lifting his shirt and him writing “Wish they would’ve taken me home!” for all to see?

"He clicked through Travis Fontana’s Facebook page, found via his email, and grinned. So the guy was definitely gay, out and proud. Not only that, he seemed to post a lot of pictures of overly muscled military-type men. And he’d even talked about a few fantasies."

Travis did a great job keeping it a secret. Right.

3) Jason and Dexter are long time players in the scene, keeping their kinky life away from work. Jason rubbing his dick while looking at Travis's pictures in a crowded van and laughing about it, kinda doesn't scream secret to me. And the two of them telling a virtual stranger aka Travis about them and to not tell anyone else about them being a couple...eh...it seemed like putting a lot of trust in some kid's hands. Even if they planned on fucking him.

I see the plot points used to make the story work. And it was a decent job. Even my niggles didn't lower my rating by much, just not rounding up. The sex scene was long and descriptive. Toys (flogger, cane, butt plug, singletail, ties and handcuffs) were hot. Maybe the one part where blood was drawn and nothing was done might've pulled me out of the scene for smidge.

The PWP with plot ends with a HFN that I think has promise for more. I'd read more from this author. It was a hot little number. My favorite part? Not the daisy chain (can you believe it?)

It was the flirtation between Dexter and Travis before the cops came in and bust the party. That read the most organic to me.

My thanks to the author and team behind this event. :)
