Loved it!

I loved this book! Rebecca Hamilton really outdid herself with this one. I hope she does a follow up to let us know how things between Noah and the Brat goes.

Allow an afternoon for this ADULT paranormal with a questionable Santa in the town of Hope's Bluff on Christmas Eve in 2015.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This collection of 20 dystopian urban fantasy novels is a great deal. I am reviewing Kiersten Fay's The Vampire's Masquerade. Vampire's Masquerade is the 4th book in the Creatures of Darkness series and a follow up to Keeping his Siren. Lex and Kasima meet at the Ever Nights club and it's instant attraction - what is initially meant to be a one night stand turns into a steamy affair with a bit of a surprise ending. It was nice to be reacquainted with the rest of the Ever Nights characters and I hope to see more of their stories.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I did receive an ARC from the author.

This was my introduction to Rebecca Hamilton's writing and I was not disappointed. I didn't know what to expect going into the story and found it to be a mix of paranormal and dystopian fiction. I enjoyed it from first page to the last. The only thing I could have hoped for was for it to be a little bit longer. The world building and descriptions making it easy to imagine what the world is like.

The romance between Adria and Alec builds as they get to know each other and they have respect for and understanding of each other and their strengths. I loved the tease of the restraint Alec shows despite temptation to give while honoring what he believes to be true.

Overall, I loved the book and can't read to read more in this world.

True Love and Determination

Received a copy of this book from a Librarything giveaway. As I enjoy reading all genre of books, I like fantasy horror witches dungeons and dragon stories. This storyline was about true love and how these two was a must to be together no matter what. Story was very detailed and well entertaining. I would recommend to others

I gave this book three stars because, it was getting annoying of the character Char constantly asking Abram to tell her the truth, the constant back and forth. I liked the twist in the story about Dalton, but something was missing. All in all okay story.

Good series

I liked this book and like the series. I’m glad that Brooke and Maddock are not as contentious and are working well together finally. It will be interesting to see if that lasts.

First I want to start by saying I was so excited to read this! Like the blurb and the cover I just knew it was kismet!

... the universe lied though this book... Oooh this BOOK, it had such potential! Then it just read like a two year old trying to color a picture, all over the place! It just seemed so flighty and scattered, and the 'romance' bleh I kept waiting for Noah to end up being the bad guy because then at least he'd get some dimension!

I am giving it 2 stars purely because, well I finished it and again the potential! voodoo! Death drawings! It could have been so much more.

This was a really interesting magical dystopian adventure story. I really liked the two main characters, the mythos built in, the way our world was seen in the future and how the people (both on land and in the sea) and magic interact. I would highly recommend this book for those that like adventure, sea and islander mythos with a dystopian flare. There was 'romance' but it was not the main theme of the story and I think it blended in well with the overall tale. Highly recommend.

I received ARC reader copy.

I just finished this and all I can say at this exact moment is wow. It's an awesome story that I'm excited to continue reading. I'm definitely going to write a more in-depth review, I just need a bit of time to process my thoughts.

ETA

My initial reaction on completing this was simply: wow.

I absolutely loved this book. It's not perfect, I'll admit, but it's close.

The main pull that had me wanting to read this book is the element of Wicca. Wicca has been a subject that's been of great interest to me over the last few years. My favorite show of all time is Charmed. It's got strong storylines and powerful female role models, and so does this story. I love stories with powerful witches in them. I also enjoy the connection to nature, and simplicity, and peace that Wicca can bring.

This story had all those things and more.

Not everything, or everyone, is always as they seem. Sophia is a typical 20 something, just finished college and moved back home. The people in her town are wary of her, suspicious even, because she practices Wicca. She tries her best to ignore them, but even she has her limits. One night her friend Ivory invites her out to a club, under the pretense of having some fun, and little does she know the people that she meets there and the events that unfold will change her path, and her life, forever.

This book is full of action, suspense, and romance all at once.

I have to admit, that once I learned that there were vampires, my enthusiasm sagged slightly. I was thinking, "Oh no, same tired thing again, witches falling for vampires." And while some of the information is the same, there are a lot of twists and differences to keep your interest. I don't want to give anything away, but trust me, it's different.

I love the attention to detail that the author has. This is just one example that sticks out in my mind, but it works really well. For Sophia's love interest Charles, Hamilton gives him teal colored eyes. Not blue, not green, not even blue-green, but teal. In that simple word choice she had me hooked in to his character and to rooting for him and Sophia as a couple.

The romance between them is just right. Mature, simple, not overly exaggerated. It made me catch my breath a few times, I'll admit.

The concept of a Forever Girl is a new spin on reincarnation. I really enjoyed the idea of this. It's done in a way that I've not read before, and it's a powerful way to let Sophia's past come to light and to complete the strengthening of her magic.

I could probably go on and on about this book but I won't ramble on with too many more details. I don't want to give too much away. I can't wait to read the next book in this series, I hope it's just as good if not better than this one.

Not Just Voodoo by Rebecca Hamilton and other authors have a collection of awesome fantasy stories that are sure to please the fantasy fans out there. I have read only one book better than this in years. Although they were all were awesome I always pick out my favs to share. 'I Wish I Weren’t A Djinni' and 'Wicked Witch' were my two favorites. Those are the two stories that stuck in my head when I finished the book. All were good, either a 4-5 star stories.

Something Like Voodoo by Rebecca Hamilton was a terrific teen/young adult fantasy novel that adults will love also. A loner high school girl that recently lost her mom to a heart attack moves to a small town with her dad. Ever since she was young, she would do drawings when she wasn't aware of doing them and those people would die. It happened before her mom died too. Now she is drawing one of a boy in school, a boy that she is attracted to, a boy the It girl in school likes. The girl with magic that causes harm to those who cross her. It is a fun and exciting read with lots of surprises along the way. Well plotted, great dialogue, and great cast of characters that make you feel you know someone like that. The surprises did catch me by total surprise! Lots of action, magic, mysteries, fantasy, touch of romance, and loads of creepy fun. Thanks NetGalley for letting me have a chance to read this book.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I've never really read anything that pertained to Wiccans, and this was a perfect book to start with. It explained the purpose of the rituals and all that goes into them. That's great for a reader like me, that wouldn't have known otherwise.

Sophia is a character that believes she can take care of herself. She finds it hard to trust others and ask for help. Most of this has to do with her relationship with her mother. My only complaint is that we didn't see more of her father. I would have liked to see her interact with him. But, wow, her mother is something else.

Charles is such an interesting character. Half the time I didn't know if I wanted to slap him or kiss him. I did secretly love his arrogance. Nothing is sexier than confidence. Just sayin. I also love the fact that he is so protective of Sophie regardless of whether he thinks he should be. He takes an interest in keeping her safe.

There were a ton of twists that I never saw coming. People I thought they weren't who they turned out to be. It also explains why Sophie has such a hard time trusting others.

Forever Girl is a book for those between YA and adult urban fantasy. It's not raunchy or anything like that. There's just a few cuss words, and creative writing when it came to overwhelming feelings. ;)

This is such a unique look into the world of vampires, shifters, and witches. It's not what I expected, and I'm extremely happy about that. The book was creative and the perfect length. I can't wait for the next installment.

I'm so happy we finally get to learn a little bit about Ophelia. When we met her in Forever Girl, she was full of this mysterious past. But it's not mysterious anymore. ;)

The plot was very carried out very quickly. Ophelia finds herself thrown into this world she doesn't completely believe is real. Ophelia comes to terms fast with what her mark means pretty fast. One day she's completely against it, and the next she's like "Let's do this." My only complaint is her feelings toward Ethan were extremely strong even after they had just met. I do, however, like their loyalty to each other. Ethan will do whatever possible in order to make sure Ophelia completes her task.

Also on Callista. I knew she was vindictive, but wow! I was glad we got that little snippet of who she really is. Just sayin'. I was not expecting that. This is a great novella in the Forever Girl series. It adds more knowledge, and I always think that's a great thing. Ophelia learns some truths to finally put her thoughts about her mother to rest.

Excerpt
I can’t breathe. My lungs hurt from the effort. Where is she? Where’s my daughter?

I’m shaking and full of dread and I absolutely can’t live if anything bad has happened to her. Please, God, let her be okay. Please!

My sluggish heartbeat turns to a pounding of adrenaline. I rush to the front of the house and burst onto the porch. The first thing I see is the dead raccoon that Pa left beside the house, now swarmed by flies. I spin toward where I know Mama will be sitting.

Beneath the long-ago burnt-out porch light—now a cemetery for moths—Mama sips at her tea. She’s cozy, all wrapped in her cotton robe as though nothing is wrong. The glow of morning sun catches the reddish hues of her graying blonde hair.

“Where is she?” I ask, grasping the doorframe to keep my weak body balanced.

Mama jumps. Her tea splashes as she shakily lowers the cup to her lap. “Oh, Rose. Please don’t do this.”

“Don’t do what?”

I’m met with silence. She shifts in the porch swing and lowers her gaze. Her face is all puffy, her eyes red.

I narrow my eyes. “Where’s Anna? You know. I can tell you do.”

Then I see it—that flash of a smile that is completely devoid of happiness. Her instinctual defense to hide whatever she is really feeling. But this time, even she can’t hold that smile in place.

I’ve lived on the wrong side of secrets long enough to know when someone is hiding something. And that’s exactly what Mama is doing.

I step closer, jabbing my finger in her face. “Tell me! I know you know where she is! What did you do to her?”

I’m shaking. My hands clench and my heart pounds in my ears. Ma stands, the teacup tumbling from her lap. She fumbles for it, then lets it go. She paces, then sits again. Her hands flit around, from her face, to smooth her dress, twisting in her lap. She’s coming undone, about to fall apart completely, and I don’t care one bit.

“WHERE’S ANNA?”

“Your Pa loves us,” she says finally, her words hidden behind her hand as she talks. “He’s protecting your reputation.”

“His reputation?” I say, incredulous.

She smiles weakly. “You’ll understand one day.”

I won’t ever understand. Mama had been good to me once, but ever since the Darkness came, she’s someone else. A woman stuck between denial and oblivion.

“Where’s Anna?” I ask again, but already I have that sinking feeling in my stomach. The pain of the birth ebbs, replaced by a fresh rush of adrenaline.

“It’s for the best.” Mama pinches the bridge of her nose. “We can be a family again, the way we’re supposed to be. Your Pa’s learned his lesson. We all make mistakes, Rose. The Lord implores us to forgive.”

Pa’s truck crunches over the gravel driveway and starts down the road, tearing away from us. He must have her. I can’t even think straight, can’t think beyond the thought that my daughter must be okay. That she can’t be hurt. That Pa can’t take her away from me. I’m sick with panic and fearing the worst. I can’t lose her.

The dusty blue truck kicks up dirt as Pa halts at the end of our road. He’s on his way to hide the evidence of what he’s done. He can’t stand to look at her, to be reminded of the monster that lives inside of him. He already tried to convince me to give her up. I considered it, but only for the sake of protecting her from him. But it wasn’t his decision. Anna was never his. She is a product of his abuse, of his drunkenness and Mama’s cowardliness.

But she is still my child.

The Forever Girl (The Forever Girl #1) by Rebecca Hamilton

Sophia Parsons is a twenty-two year old Wiccan. When a spell goes wrong her whole world changes. She hears voices in her head, but doesn't want to tell anyone. Not sure what she just got herself into, she is about to find out, like it or not.

She meets Charles, a shape-shifter. She falls for him but can he be trusted? She soon learns she must use all her skills including some dark magic to keep herself and her friends alive. And she will have to trust Charles to accomplish this dangerous task.

A well written story. I really liked Sophia, living with a bi-polar mother is not easy for her. Yet she strives to be normal and to accept who she is. Charles is likable as well. At times I was not sure if he could be trusted but he fits perfectly into the story.

The story is very original, has a perfect blend of suspense, drama, magic, mystical beings, horror and a bit of romance. Some characters are likable and others are not. A definite edge-of-your-seat read. I feel that those who love (dark) fantasy/paranormal/witches will enjoy The Forever Girl

OK, I have mixed feelings on this book. Reading it was an experience good and bad. It was all over the place. The story was interesting the world was unique and had so much potential....but the author keep going off on extreme details that had nothing to do with the story. I think she has great potential, with a really good editor. Her world building was very good as was her character development. Fantastic characters ! Edited I think it could jump to a 4 star. Really a great job for a first book. I will watch for future books from this author.
