S. E. Harmon

Mmmmm. I don't read fantasy, vampire, science fiction and now paranormal. I thought I might be able to take a little ghost ... but no. It didn't appeal to me though I did my best to get onboard with it.

The detective part of the novel was quite good, as was the romance. But the presence of the cantankerous ghost Ethan, and even the murder victim, managed to hold up the book and not add anything - the only redeeming part was the way FBI agent/G man Rain Christiansen reacted to the ghostly stalking - I enjoyed meeting him through his first person narration.

Rain was such a mix of contradictions - I liked his weirdness.… (meer)

I've made comments about this novel under under Blueprint as I read these two novels consecutively.

Reading the one comment below about A Deeper Blue, I see time has dulled my memory of Blue's immense reluctance to come out and what that did to Kelly and Blue's relationship. Perhaps it did drag on, and on.

But funny how now I only recall the power of their love, especially Kelly's steadfastness. He never gave up on Blue. He accepted that for him it was Blue or nothing - so what choice did he have but to wait? even without assurance it would go anywhere.

During the years they were apart, Kelly had a good life but it was a low-key happiness... the life lived by so many people of course. But wow, that's the great thing about Romance - you meet people who try for something more, heart-sickness be damned.… (meer)

I wish I'd written about this when I finished it, as I remember it as beautiful. Kelly's love for Blue was so steadfast and lifted Blue up. Blue goes through an awakening as his bro romance with Kelly, his bestie, flames steadily into a full blown commitment and coupledom. They raise Blue's daughter together, they have such joy in the family they have together.

I don't normally gush about that sort of thing - but these two guys - they are all about family in an ideal way, but in a way that is so grounded. Not to mention that their love affair is hot.

I see there is another book that S. E. Harmon calls part of a duet of two books about Blue and Kelly. Reading the precis of A Deeper Blue, I must have read that too, as it seems Blue didn't come out in Blueprint? but finds his way out in the second book. Makes it even more surprising that I didn't make a note of these books at the time I read them about two? months ago.
