I love this book. I've used it with my kids at work and plan to use the book in my classroom. It is super fun for children. It makes learning about patterns fun, from the bumble bee buzz buzz buzz to the cricket chika chika's chika chika, its super fun for children to follow along. The sound the bug makes is repetitive and this story allows children to follow along and get really invested in the book. This book really shows what children should see in a pattern book because of the amazing different patterns as well as the images, and text that repeats!

I give this book a 5/5. This is such a fun & cute way to emphasize patterns for children. From the bumble bee buzz buzz buzz, sip; the caterpillar nibble nibble chew, bite; the cricket chicka chika chika, chirp. Important everyday occurrences are pointed out during these meaningful patterns. Patterns are something that happens over and over again, as in the images of the objects and the same words over and over again. This book shows children what they should see in a pattern book, since it has strong content of different patterns!

5/5 Stars. Such a fun & cute way to emphasize patterns for children. Similar to the Bug book the fish book emphasizes patterns like colors and shapes (black, yellow, black yellow/ stripe dot, stripe dot) in order to be simplistic but also stress the importance of a changing pattern. The patterns are meaningful as well as being easily distinguished by young children. This is a awesome children book which also has strong content of patterns.

Pattern fish helps children to learn patterns. This book is very valuable to teach mathematical concepts. In each page, it decribes how the sea animals looks with patterns. I love how in the end of the book, it has information about patterns. I will definitely read this to my class if I had a group of younger children. I will show them the last page of the book with the information on patterns.

This is a great book for children who are bilingual and children who don't know any Spanish. This book is about a parrot who is misunderstood in the pet shop, because he does not speak English, and no one can understand him. This book has wonderful artwork. This book also has a lot of detail on each page, such as the quotation bubbles. The book has a good lesson for students, and is a fun read. The book also has funny parts, for example, the bird speaks Spanish so he said Si, but the customer thought he said sea, so he brought him the ocean and the bird didn't have the best experience. The detail with the art work is also very fun for children to look at. For example on page 9, if you look in the background of the picture, you see two animals making funny faces. This book is great for students to expand their knowledge about different language. In the back of the book their is definitions for all the words in Spanish.

I had mixed feelings about this book. I liked how it taught spanish words in a creative way. It was cute and funny how people misunderstood the poor parrot because he was speaking spanish every time someone asked him to say a sentence in English. When he said "agua," they thought the said opera. Although, I did not like how repetitive the story became. A different person came in the store each day and asked the bird to say something. He was misunderstood each time and the store owner told him that he needed to learn to say the phrases if he wanted to find a home. The message of this book is to teach basic Spanish words to children in a fun and creative way.

The only way I imagine this book being interesting is if I am changing the intonation of my voice. It at least keeps the children in suspense as they do not know what is next.

Our class enjoyed the predictable pattern that this counting book included. We thought the end pages were colorful and an excellent addition supporting the books concept of counting to 100. We found the questions and riddles to be fun while keeping us on our toes!

How do you know the animal you are seeing in the farm is actually the cow?
In each page of this beautiful picture book you'll find a rhyming description of an animal you mustn't mistake with a cow. A picture on the tab shows the cow acting like that animal, but when you flip the tab you can see the true animal. The kids love to shout the animal's name at the same time they discover it under the tab. Thankfully the cow is finally found at the end of the book where cows usually are, doing what cows usually do. Everything seems to be back to normal then!
The book is really interactive. Some of the rhymes feel a little forced to me, but in the overall it's a funny text, and some pictures are hilarious. Can you imagine a cow swimming belly up, or sitting in a branch?

Cowboy Kirby and Miss Emma both have a pasture full of cows. Both of their herds keep jumping the fence to be with the others on the other side. So Cowboy Kirby and Miss Emma are getting frustrated with this mess. In the end it all workout just fine for them and their cow herd.

Personal Reaction:
I personally liked this book a lot. It was fun and unpredictable. It was a great way of learning even and odd numbers. I like the ending very much it was fun and educational.

Extension Ideas:
1. I could use this when learning odd and even numbers.
2. I could have the kids dress up as cows and have our own "splitting of the herd". (act out the book, hands on :))

A fun way to get students to think about 100 and the 100th day of school. The book has many teachable math moments that invite children to chime in and do math and poetry without realizing they are practicing skills.

Summary:
This book is all about ways to get 100 of something. It starts with "if you go to school for 95 days and then 5 more you get what? (how cool) smarter and smarter and 100 days of school." Another that it says is "if 10 tired children all take off their shoes, what do you get? lots of barefeet. And (I suppose) 100 toes. The book goes on to give more neat examples.

Personal Reaction:
I loved this book. It was neat the way they came up with the different situation on how to count to 100. I would read this to any child and I think they would enjoy it.

Classroom Extension:
1. As a class we would come up with our own rhymes for 100.
2. I could also give the students a certain number and they could come up with their own rhyme and then we could all share them with the class.

Pattern Fish by Trudy Harris is a great book because it teaches students how to do patterns in a fun and interesting way. Patterning is a skill that students will recognize and utilize in the real world. There are fun and interesting ways to help students learn patterning. One could be having them line up blocks in a ABAB order. Another thing they could do would be using playing cards to form patterns. An additional activity would be to encourage students to make patterns during dramatic play, music and movement, and science center. I would defiantly recommend this book to many teachers to read to their students because it teaches patterning in a fun and interesting way. I will defiantly read this book to my students because I want to make learning fun and ensure that students are able to recognize and construct patterns.

Genre: Fantasy

Review: This book is fantasy because the bird in this story talks. Even though it is a parrot and parrots do talk, the parrot thinks to himself in words and complete sentences, therefore making it fantasy. Even though the parrot is the main character of the story, it's a great story about persistence and being who you truly are and not changing for anyone.

Character: Perico the parrot is the main character of this story. I am saying that he is a round dynamic character. Round because we know about his life in the pet store and know that he really wants to find a home and at the beginning will do anything to find a home. He is dynamic because he does change from trying to be what everyone else wants him to be, to who he really is and then finds an owner who keeps him for who he is.

Media: Brush painting

I feel like this book didn't really get the idea of odd and even until the explanation page, so I probably wouldn't use it in my classroom. However, the story was sweet and it might be useful in a one on one setting where you can express the ideas at the end of the book through out the story.

Tally McNally is a competitive type who keeps track of what everyone's doing and how he always wins. But when he gets into a dangerous situation, his friends come to the rescue. Since this is a math concept for young children, I wish the danger did not involve "going down the drain" (gutter)...a bit too close to a real fear of some kinders. Also, wish the solution had more to do with tallying...that concept gets lost during the rescue plan. Still, rhyming text and various opportunities to count/tally objects along the way make this a solid choice for a math unit.

This is a very cute book that teaches children how to count to 100. The funny rhymes in the book show different ways to count to 100, whether it be with a clown's nose or a piggy's toes. The illustrations are fun to look at and easy to understand with real world examples. This is a fun, interactive book that works in the basics of counting and adding numbers. Children will forget they are leaning while they manipulate numbers and improve their math skills.
