RICHIE HAVENS has been performing and recording for more than thirty years. He has also been active in environmental, young people's, and nonviolence causes. He lives in New Jersey. STEVE DAVIDOWITZ, a longtime friend of Richie Havens, is one of the country's most respected racing writers and toon meer author of the seminal guide to handicapping, Betting Thoroughbreds. He is also an amateur guitarist and a photographer who exhibits periodically in New York and the Midwest. toon minder

This is a readable book with little personal detail. He talks about singing in his home neighborhood of Bedford-Sty, and then going to the Village, and becoming a star. There is some focus on Woodstock, his vision for the future seems to be Woodstock forever. Not much in the book grabbed my attention enough that I remember it. He got involved with marine conservation early on & that is interesting, but it is pretty much a book on the surface.
